THE NATIONAL MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITH THE TEKOVE MYMBA FOUNDATION

The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation, Juan Cabandié, signed an agreement with the Foundation Tekove Mymba through which the national road awarded the amount of $ 32.781.952 million for the acquisition of property, improvements and expansion enclosures of various species of animals.

The signing took place between Cabandié, and the representative of the Foundation, Juan Manuel Paccot, in the framework of the program “Strengthening of Centres of Rescue and Rehabilitation of Wild Animals”. The same was created by the agency of Environment of the Nation with the goal of strengthening the Federal Network of Rescue and Rehabilitation Centres dedicated to wildlife, created to assist facilities that receive animals rescued by the Ministry, through the Brigade of Environmental Control (BCA).

In this opportunity, the agreement will allow the construction of enclosures for cats, bears, elephants, and macaws; a space for multiple uses, and a cold chamber; as well as the acquisition of a minitractor short grass.

The Foundation Tekove Mymba was established in 2019 as the first animal sanctuary of the Latin american continent. In the Colonia San Anselmo, in the province of entre Ríos, stands in an area of 1200 hectares, designed for the species that spent most of his life in a situation of captivity, remain in a natural habitat similar to that of its origin.

DEER "DAMA" TRANSFERRED TO TEKOVE MYMBA FOUNDATION

The Centre of the Rescue and Management of Flora and Fauna of the Foundation Tekove Mymba will get the deer “Chimuelo” and “Cuculula” that were in the Ride the Ducks to live in a more natural habitat. The transfer was coordinated between the Municipality of Monte Caseros and the management of Parks and Reserves of the Ministry of Tourism of the province.

The secretary of Environment of the Municipality, Dante Morel explained that the animals were admitted with the permission of Flora and Fauna two years ago for his recovery and once met that goal today they will return to their natural habitat in the protected reserve a few miles of Columbus, in the Colonia San Anselmo, a place designed for the species to live in freedom.

The Foundation Tekove Mymba, he achieved a place that stands as an animal sanctuary designed for the species to live in freedom and in a natural habitat similar to that of its biome of origin.

Juan Manuel Paccot, a biologist, is the founder of the project, which began in 2015, and in 2019 won the category of Foundation achieving through direct donation by the estate of 1,200 hectares, almost half of the total area of the city of Columbus, in which today is located the sanctuary.

It is called sanctuary because it is the final place for the withdrawal of the animals from the zoos and because these sites are given a place of semi-captivity so that they can develop their life naturally.

It is for this that does not allow man-made interventions, those places are not open to the public because they are spaces that do not have profit-making. Once the animals arrive, the only thing they do is to make an observation to make sure they are okay and if they need help they provide, but the idea is that no intervention, to respect the life of animals.

Their snouts were the first to warn that the freedom was finally near. After a lifetime of imprisonment, Philip and a Giant, two buffalo of India that had remained for many years at the zoo of Yastay of La Rioja in Argentina, they had reached their final destination.

That day, early in the morning, had mounted a special device with vehicle adapted to the needs of animals and to its transfer to Between Rivers to the shrine Tekove Mymba, which in guaraní means and animal life that was enabled on a Rescue Center for Wild Fauna and Flora in the town of San Anselmo, Colón department, with the intention of rescuing, sheltering and rehabilitating wildlife species.

Already in the truck that would take them to their new premises, Philip and the Giant started to get anxious when you felt the smell of the fresh grass. And as soon as you opened the door that separated the precious freedom and their tired feet touched the grass, came to a show that left everyone astonished.

“As you set foot in the land began to run and wallow. Olfateaban the entire area and they seemed happy,” she says with a smile Juan Manuel Paccot, the biologist who is behind the foundation of the project that began in 2015 and in 2019, obtained the status of a Foundation. “There, in a campus of more than 40 acres of natural grassland and lagoons, now enjoy a semi-freedom, and so shall it be until the end of his life. Its evolution is very good and it is noticeable the improvement of their physical integrity,” adds the expert.

The release was the finishing touch to a number of years working for the welfare of the buffalo and culminated with the signing of an agreement with the Municipality of La Rioja, through which it managed the transfer of the animals.

During their first years of life, Philip had remained in the reserve Tatú Carreta of the province of Córdoba until later was housed at the zoo of La Rioja. For its part, Giant, which has a horn broken and it is a male adult, came from a circus and was also received by the zoo in question when they banned the show with animals in circuses. And there, every one by his side, in tight spaces and cement spent their days until they were able to get the freedom.

Although the two buffalo had been almost all their life together, just when they arrived at the sanctuary Tekove Mymba (@tekovemymba) began to show signs of friendship between them. The buffalo it is a large bovid originating in southeast asia. Currently he can be seen in both wild and domestic, and it is not rare to find two males that share both time and space together.

“Do not separate from never. They spend their days walking, eating, and bathing in the lagoon. We try to make contact with humans is the minimum possible as part of our routine and work with them is to get closer to observe and to check that your health is in the best conditions. We want you to have a life as smooth as possible, away from people and in freedom, as it always should have been.”
